The Herald's Realtor of the Week - Eddie Boyd
The Herald’s Realtor of the Week is Eddie Boyd. He is broker-in-charge and owner of RE/MAX Palmetto Properties which is located at 215 Ronnie Court Suite D in the Carolina Forest community near Myrtle Beach. The company has 11 agents, and its primary focus is residential properties, including new construction.
A native of Horry County, Boyd was born in Myrtle Beach and grew up in Loris. He graduated from Loris High School in 1982 and went to work with Better Brands Inc. in Myrtle Beach for the next six years.
In 1988 Boyd joined Triad Tire in Little River as assistant manager and later became manager. He worked there until 1997, when he started Loris Tire and Automotive.
In 1999 Loris Tire and Automotive suffered a fire, and Boyd found himself at a “crossroad.” It was then that he decided to pursue a career in real estate. He obtained a real estate sales license and entered the profession by going to work at Century 21 Bratcher Realty in Conway.
Being a lifelong resident of Horry County, Boyd had contacts throughout the county, which enabled him to have a large market area. In fact, he became so busy that he convinced his wife, Julie, to become licensed in 2000 in order to help him.
Boyd then decided to join Coldwell Banker Leonard Roberts in North Myrtle Beach and continued to build his clientele while winning awards for outstanding sales production.
In 2005 Coldwell Banker Leonard Roberts merged with Coldwell Banker Chicora Real Estate, and Boyd went to work with RE/MAX Ocean Forest.
At RE/MAX Ocean Forest, Boyd learned about RE/MAX’s system of marketing real estate. In 2006, he received the opportunity to open a new RE/MAX franchise in the Carolina Forest area. It was then that Eddie and Julie Boyd started RE/MAX Palmetto Properties with Eddie as the broker-in-charge. Although Julie is licensed and participates in residential sales, her primary focus is running the office and providing support for the company’s agents.
Boyd is a member of the Coastal Carolinas Association of Realtors and has earned the ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative) professional designation. He is also in the process of obtaining a contractor’s license. He is currently working with a local builder, SMB Carolinas, in the development of new residential subdivisions.
The couple have been married since 1985. They have two daughters, Whitney, 18, and Brittany, 16. Whitney is a freshman at Coastal Carolina University, studying business administration. Brittany is a junior at North Myrtle Beach High School and is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and golf team.
For recreation Boyd enjoys golf, walking, and bicycle riding. He and Julie also like to travel and have visited Hawaii, Mexico (East and West coasts), and most of the Caribbean Islands.
Boyd says that what he likes most about the real estate profession is the satisfaction that he receives from helping people complete their transactions and gaining their friendship. He also likes the income and the ability to adjust his schedule so that he can be more involved with his family.
Helping his agents to be successful is also important to Boyd. He provides them with the training and tools that they need, including a resource center, virtual tours, and Web sites.
“I can’t think of anything I’d rather do,” Boyd said.
Kent Strobel is a 1968 honors graduate of The Citadel. A former member of the Horry County Board of Education, he received his first real estate license in 1984 and his broker’s license in 1987. |
