The 4th of July is one of the most popular times to visit Myrtle Beach. South Carolina is one of the most patriotic states in the entire country, which is part of what makes Myrtle Beach such a great place to experience the spirit of American freedom on Independence Day. With its stunning coastline, vibrant atmosphere, and an array of exciting events, Myrtle Beach promises an unforgettable Independence Day experience in 2023. In this blog post, we will explore the best 4th of July celebrations and activities available to you in Myrtle Beach this year.

 

1. Admire the Area’s Fireworks Shows

 

The Grand Strand loves fireworks all throughout the year. Whether you come for Memorial Day, Independence Day, or even Veteran’s Day, you’re probably going to be able to catch a fireworks show. Myrtle Beach is renowned for its breathtaking fireworks displays, and the 4th of July offers an opportunity to witness some of the most spectacular shows in the whole area.

Head to one of the many vantage points along the beach or grab a seat on the Second Avenue Pier for an unforgettable view of the fireworks lighting up the night sky. As one can expect, the fireworks are free for all to see which is one of the best parts about the night! Be sure to get there early if possible, as popular areas tend to get very packed and traffic can get pretty rough.

This year, there will be fireworks shows on July 2 and 3 after the Pelicans Game at the stadium, July 4 at 9:30pm at both East Bay Park in Georgetown and Cherry Grove Pier in North Myrtle Beach, and July 4 at 10:00pm at Second Avenue Pier, Broadway at the Beach, MarshWalk, and Barefoot Landing.

 

 

2. Attend One of the Independence Day Parades

 

Every year there is a slew of 4^th of July parades in the Grand Strand. This year, you can join the patriotic parades at three different times. There will be a 4^th of July Golf Cart Parade on July 4 at 11am in Surfside Beach, a Boat Parade in Murrells Inlet at 6pm at Garden City Point, and a traditional July Fourth Parade on Pawleys Island at 10am. In addition to these events, you can join in on several beachfront celebrations, like the Surfside Beach 4^th of July Celebration from 5-8pm, the Salute from the Shore at 1pm, and Georgetown’s Indigo Choral Society Concert at 6:30pm.

 

3. Enjoy a Family Night Out at Broadway at the Beach

 

Broadway at the Beach is one of the Grand Strand’s premium areas to shop and socialize. With several acres of restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues, Broadway at the Beach is a perfect place to celebrate Independence Day with your loved ones. If you decide to visit Broadway at the Beach for the 4^th of July, try to make reservations in advance. The area will be absolutely packed with people who also have this idea, and there’s a good chance you’ll get stuck with long lines if you don’t plan ahead!

 

 

4. Spend a Night at the Ballpark with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans

 

The Pelicans are Myrtle Beach’s beloved minor league baseball team, and a night at the ballpark is always a blast. The Pelicans work to make a family-friendly atmosphere that everyone in the family can enjoy. Tickets are always cheap, and there will be fireworks shows after each of the games on July 2 and 3.

Please note that the Pelicans will not actually be home on July 4, but rather on July 2 and July 3. So, if you want to catch the Pelicans in action, be sure to head to a game on either Sunday or Monday!

 

5. Independence Day 5K

 

For those seeking an active start to their 4th of July celebrations, reserve a spot in the Independence Day 5K run or Uncle Sam’s 1 Mile Fun Run. Lace up your running shoes and join fellow runners to make your way a few miles along the Grand Strand’s scenic coastline. The race starts at 7am on July 4^th, and it is suggested that you reserve a spot in advance.

If you don’t have time to reserve a spot in advance, you can check in on the morning of the race to see if they still have any spots. Registration closes at 6am on July 4, though, so make sure you get there early if you’re hoping to snag a spot! The race departs from the Market Common.

 

 

6. Eat Your Fill at a Calabash Buffet

 

Myrtle Beach is known nationwide for its delicious Calabash food, and the 4^th of July is as good a time as any to sit down at one of the area’s top Calabash buffets. These buffets offer all you can eat Calabash food, which is a proposition you don’t want to miss out on.

If possible, try to arrive in time for a very early dinner or make a reservation in advance. There are very long waits at these restaurants all summer long, and that is even further exacerbated over the holidays or at peak dinner hours.
