The time has come for you to sell your home. You are struggling - we know. Saying goodbye to a place where you made many memories is not easy. But, hey - look on the bright side! Selling this home means starting a new life in another home that suits you better. We know that you agree, and thus, we know that this is not the thing you are struggling with. You are having difficulties selling your home, right? If the answer to this question is YES, then that means that your home is full of things buyers just don't like. However, there is nothing to worry about just yet. We are here to share with you seven things buyers don't want to see in your home. If you get rid of them, we are sure your home won't be on the market for too long. Thus, keep reading.

1.  Clutter and Dirt

Two things buyers don't want to see in your home are, without a doubt, clutter and dirt. These may not seem important to you, but they are crucial factors that impact your home value. Believe it or not, these two may decrease your home value by up to 10% - shocking, we know!

Thus, don't wait. Before you even list your home, make sure it is clutter and dirt free. When it comes to clutter, you have three options - donate, sell, and throw away. And, when it comes to cleaning, there is only one option - clean. You'll have to clean every nook and cranny of your home if you want to impress the buyers. And, yes, this also means cleaning the inside of your closet, under your stairs, and above the cabinets - trust us, people will look there.

2. Personal Items

Speaking of things buyers don't want to see in your home, we cannot but mention all of your personal items. Personal items such as family photos, heirlooms, memorabilia, travel souvenirs, and even things like your kid's drawings on the fridge or your pet's toys on the floor, etc., are not the things that should be in your home when selling. Why? Because, with so many of your personal items scattered around, it is difficult for potential buyers to envision themselves living in your home. Thus, pack all of these and place them in storage (or relocate them to your new home, if it is ready).

Moreover, some other things you should avoid putting in your home when selling are decorations. For instance, now is Christmas time, and your home is probably full of holiday decor, right? It would be a good idea to organize and store it to try to avoid clutterof this kind. And for the same reason - it makes it difficult for buyers to envision their holidays in your home.

3. Strong Odors

One thing is for sure - a home with odors will not sell. Just think about it - would you buy a home that smells funny, moldy, or even rancid? You probably wouldn't. So, if your home is on the smellier side, you know what to do - give it a deep clean!

If you don't have the time and the energy to deep clean your entire home, it might be a good idea to call professional cleaners. Professionals of this kind will ensure your home is spotless, and more importantly, they will ensure all the funky odors are gone.

4. Deferred Maintenance

If your home looks like a haunted house, don't be surprised to see buyers running away with screams. An overgrown garden, driveway covered in snow and ice, clutter scattered all over the yard, peeling facade, etc., are all the things that can push away the buyers. Thus, even though it's winter, you must take care of your home.

The same thing applies to the inside of the home. If the interior of the home has peeling paint on the walls, squeaking floorboards, leaking faucets, outdated appliances, stains on the carpets and furniture, etc., it will, again, be a major turn-off for the buyers. So, take a weekend off and get that tool kit out!

5. Lack of Storage

Okay, one of the most important things buyers don't want to see is a lack of storage. Let us be honest - you are the one who doesn't want to see it either, right? Thus, if you want to attract buyers and, of course, sell your home for a higher price, try to incorporate additional storage options in your home. For instance, you can try to create a pantry, add more storage in the kitchen and bathroom, utilize that space under the stairs, etc.

6. Outdated Finishes

If your home has many old and outdated features, that may be another thing pushing the buyers off. Nobody wants to buy a home that needs a lot of work. By changing just a few things in your home, that is, by making them at least a little bit more modern, you will significantly change the look of your home.

So, prepare for the project home renovation. Don't worry; you won’t have to make any significant changes. Sometimes, even removing wallpaper, repainting the cabinets, and replacing the hardware or lighting, can make a huge difference.

7. Poor Lighting

One of the last but certainly not least things buyers don't want to see in your home is poor lighting. We think that you can agree with us on this one. There is nothing worse than entering a home that is lit with yellow light coming from rusty and outdated fixtures.

So, if your budget allows it, try replacing the lighting in your home. You won't have to spend a lot of money on this one if you go to your local furniture second-hand store or your city's flea market. Yes, there is where you can find some unique lighting fixtures for a small amount of money.

As you have seen, there are many things buyers don't want to see in your home. So, if you have some of these inside and outside your home—you know what to do.
